Burma's military rulers have told the detained deputy leader of the country's main opposition party that he will remain under house arrest for another year.
A spokesman for the National League for Democracy tells VOA that Vice Chairman Tin Oo was informed on Sunday that his detention order remains valid until next February.
The 78-year-old opposition figure was arrested along with Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi in May 2003.
After spending about eight months in Burma's notorious Kale prison, Tin Oo was moved to his home and placed under house arrest. Burma's military dictatorship has ruled since 1962.
The National League for Democracy won a landslide election victory in 1990 but was never allowed to take office.
